Only principles endure and these I now possess, for the laws that will lead me to greatness are contained in the words of these scrolls.

Principle #1 – Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.

Keep it always in mind and you will overcome seemingly impossible obstacles that are certain to confront you as they do everyone with ambition.

Never feel shame for trying and failing for he who has never failed is he who has never tried.

Principle #2 – I will form good habits and become their slave.

If I must be a slave to habit let me be a slave to good habits. My bad habits must be destroyed and new furrows prepared for good seed.

Each principle in these scrolls will drive a bad habit from my life and replace it with one which brings me closer to success. For it is another of nature’s laws that only a habit can subdue another habit.

As I repeat the words daily contained in these scrolls they will soon become a part of my active mind. Eventually I will find myself reacting to all situations which confront me as I was commanded in the scrolls to react. Thus a new and good habit is born.

Principle #3 – I will greet this day with love in my heart.

Love is the greatest secret of success in all ventures.

I will laud my enemies and they will become my friends; I will encourage my friends and they will become my brothers. Always will I dig for reasons to applaud; never will I scratch for excuses to gossip.

I will love all manners of men for each has qualities to be admired even though they be hidden.

But how will I react to the adversity of others? With love. For just as love is my weapon to open the hearts of men, love is also my shield to repulse the arrows of hate and the spears of anger.

Principle #4 – I will persist until I succeed.

I was not delivered into this world in defeat, nor does failure course through my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be led to the slaughter. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep.

I will remember the ancient law of averages and I will bend it to my good. I will persist with knowledge that each failure to sell will increase my chance for success at the next attempt.

Principle #5 – I will increase my knowledge of the world.

Within me burns a flame which has been passed from generations uncounted and its heat is a constant irritation to my spirit to become better than I am, and I will.

I will increase my knowledge of mankind, myself, and the goods I sell, thus my sales will multiply. I will practice, and improve, and polish the words I utter to sell my goods, for this is the foundation on which I will build my career… Also I will seek constantly to improve my manners and graces, for they are the sugar to which all are attracted.

I have been given eyes to see and a mind to think and now I know a great secret of life for I perceive, at last, that all my problems are in truth great opportunities in disguise.

Principle #6 – I will live this day as if it is my last.

Yesterday is buried forever and I will think of it no more. Forgetting yesterday neither will I think of tomorrow. Should I torment myself with problems that may never come to pass? No!

I will avoid with fury the killers of time. Procrastination I will destroy with action; doubt I will bury under faith; fear I will dismember with confidence.

The duties of today I shall fulfill today. I will maketh every hour count and each minute I will trade only for something of value. And if this day is not my last, I shall fall to my knees and give thanks.

Principle #7 – Today I will be master of my emotions.

All nature is a cycle of moods and I am a part of nature and so, like the tides, my moods will rise; my moods will fall.

If I bring joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter to my customers they will react with joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter and my weather will produce a harvest of sales and a granary of gold for me. Weak is he who permits his emotions to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his emotions.

If I feel sad I will laugh.

If I fear I will plunge ahead.

If I feel poverty I will think of wealth to come.

If I become overconfident I will recall my failures.

If I feel complacency I will remember my competition.

I will master my moods through positive action and when I master my moods I will control my destiny.

Principle #8 – I will laugh at the world.

I will chuckle and my burdens will be lightened; I will laugh and my life will be lengthened for this is the great secret of long life. And most of all, I will laugh at myself for man is most comical when he takes himself too seriously.

Four words I will train myself to say until they become a habit so strong that immediately they will appear in my mind whenever good humor threatens to depart from me. These four words are: This too shall pass.

And with my laughter all things will be reduced to their proper size. I will laugh at my failures and they will vanish in clouds of new dreams; I will laugh at my successes and they will shrink to their true value.

Principle #9 – Today I will multiply my value a hundredfold.

And how will I accomplish this? First I will set goals for the day, the week, the month, the year, and my life. Just as the rain must fall before the wheat will crack its shell and sprout, so must I have objectives before my life will crystallize.

The height of my goals will not hold me in awe. If I stumble I will rise and my falls will not concern me for all men must stumble often to reach the hearth.

I will always announce my goals to the world. I will always raise my goals as soon as they are attained. Yet, never will I proclaim my accomplishments. Let the world instead, approach me with praise and May I have the wisdom to receive it in humility.

Principle #10 – I will act now.

My dreams are worthless, my plans are dust, my goals are impossible. All are of no value unless they are followed by action. I will act now.

I will act now. I will act now. Henceforth, I will repeat these words again and again each day until the words become as much a habit as my breathing and the actions which follow become as instinctive as the blinking of my eyelids.

Only action determines my value in the market place and to multiply my value I will multiply my actions. I will walk where the failure fears to walk. I will work when the failure seeks rest. Success will not wait. If I delay she will become betrothed to another.

Do you want to be happy?

Let me say it again. Happiness doesn’t depend on your external situation, but on your internal disposition. In other words, happiness depends on the posture of your heart. There are 3 common Postures of the Heart: Proud, Pitiful, and Prepared. Imagine a crazy scenario. Imagine a plane loaded with crates of newly minted money. All of a sudden, two of its engines burst into flames. The pilot realized that the only way to save the plane was to unload its precious cargo. So at mid-air, they throw away the crates of money. So on a particular area, it began to rain thick wads of cash. There happened to be three people standing under that very unique rain: Mr. Proud, Mr. Pitiful, and Mr. Prepared.

1. Mr. Proud

Mr. Proud was a boastful man. He acted as though he had everything. (He didn’t know that he was the most insecure fellow in town.) Mr. Proud had a favorite posture. He always stood with arms crossed in front of his chest. Always tight. Always stiff. Always closed. So when it began raining P1000 paper bills all around him, he just looked. “I’m not poor. And I’m definitely not a beggar. Why will I get that money? Maybe it’s dirty. Maybe it’s counterfeit.” So he kept his arms folded across his chest looking smug and didn’t catch a single paper bill.

There are people like that.

I say this often, but let me say it again: There’s no shortage of God’s blessings. There is only a shortage of readiness to receive God’s blessings. Recently, I was talking to a friend who was asking for prayers for his son. “He’s been jobless for a year,” he said. “No job offers?” I asked him. “The problem isn’t the job market. There are many jobs out there. The problem is my son. He’s too proud. He wants to start as a manager!” “Oh no.” “And he doesn’t want to work too far from the house. Because he doesn’t want to be seen riding the bus. He said if I want him to work far away, I should give him a car.”

I shook my head. “In other words, your son isn’t desperate. And only desperate people become great successes. Hmm, I wonder. Are you still feeding him, housing him, and giving him a nice monthly allowance?” With a loud sigh, my friend said, “Yeah.” “He’s too comfortable. The only way for your son to go out there and eat humble pie is if he becomes desperate.” I explained, “Desperate people do desperate things. Desperate people work as a janitor if necessary. Desperate people work two hours away. And desperate people ride the bus!” The Bible says, God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. (James 4:6) I don’t believe God actively opposes the proud. Pride has its natural consequences, and I believe He passively allows the natural consequences of pride to catch up with the proud person. In reality, it’s the proud person who opposes the blessings that are meant for his life.

2. Mr. Pitiful

The second person under that very unique rain was Mr. Pitiful. Mr. Pitiful always felt sorry for himself. His mind was obsessed with the problems in his life. What was his posture? His eyes were cast downward. His hands were limp on the side. Because of his posture, Mr. Pitiful doesn’t catch any money falling from the sky. In fact, he was so absorbed thinking of his own miseries, he didn’t even see money falling from the sky. Recently, I met another jobless person. He told me, “God doesn’t love me. Nothing is happening in my life.” He said so many things were going against him. He said that he didn’t finish college. And he was already 46 years old. And he was also sickly.

I asked, “Have you ever tried applying for a sales job?” He said, “I don’t know how to sell. I don’t think I can sell.” “Have you tried applying in a Call Center? I heard some companies accept people your age.” He shook his head. “I’ll feel out of place. Everyone there is very young.” “How about starting a small business?” “I’ll probably fail.” “Oh, you will fail. No question about it. That’s entrepreneurship. But you just have to start again.” “I can’t take failure. I give up too quickly.” It was impossible to talk to him. He didn’t like solutions. He just wanted someone to pity him.

Friend, get rid of self-pity from your life. See the blessings that you already have and the blessings that are coming your way. Take on a grateful heart. And you’ll receive even more blessings!

And now the third posture…

3. Mr. Prepared

Mr. Prepared was a man who liked looking up. When he saw the money falling from the sky, he opened his arms really wide, catching a lot of money. Do you believe that God’s blessings are falling on you everyday? Do you wake up every morning believing there’s abundance everywhere? If you’re desperate for God, you’re open to receive more!

One day, someone came up to me and said, “Bo, I believe God plays favorites.” “Why do you say that?” I asked. He said, “Take yourself, for instance. You’re spiritual life is strong; Your ministry is growing; Your family life is tight; Your businesses are expanding. It only means one thing. God plays favorites and you’re one of them.”

I told him, “I don’t believe that God plays favorites. The Bible says that the sun shines on both the bad and the good and the rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous (Matthew 5:45). God doesn’t play favorites. We play favorites.” “I don’t get it.” I explained. “One of my earliest spiritual mentors was a nun by the name of Sr. Angelina Lim. When I was 13 years old, she taught me that God’s love is like rain that falls from the sky. Some go out into the rain bringing a cup and get a cup full of rain. Some bring out a pitcher and get a pitcher full of rain. Some bring out a pail and get a pail full of rain. Some bring out a drum and get a drum full of rain. Some bring out a swimming pool and get a swimming pool of rain! The container represents the opening of your heart to God.”

“I get it,” my friend said. “But Bo, I still think you’re lucky.” “Yes I’m lucky. But I define luck in a different way. My friend Dean Pax Lapid says, ‘Luck consists of Preparedness and Opportunity.’ I see the opportunity because I’m prepared.” Most of my financial mentors started poor. They went through a lot of pain and humiliation. But they became wealthy because the pain and humiliation made them desperate. And desperate people do desperate things.

One of my mentors told me a story.

He said, “When I was a young man, I’d go door-to-door selling window blinds. In one of my sales calls, I visited a businessman, and gave him my proposal written in a letter. The businessman looked at my letter, smirked, and threw it on the floor.” “That’s terrible,” I said. “He didn’t have the decency to simply return the letter to him. The man threw it on the floor just to insult me. It was so painful. Do you know what I did?

“What?”

“I picked it up and said, ‘Thank you, Sir.’ I walked out and knocked on another door. And another door. And another door. I ate humiliation for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.” Today, 32 years later, my mentor’s company—which still sells window blinds—now sells over a billion pesos each year. How come? Because once upon a time, my mentor was desperate. He explained to me why. “Bo, when I started, I had no choice. I was kicked out of college. My grades were very bad. So having a job and climbing the corporate ladder wasn’t an option for me. The only way open to me was to build my business.” I love this passage: Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall directyour paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Be humble before God.

And you too will receive the blessings of God like a downpour.

May your dreams come true,

Everyone has a dream and this is very typical for us Filipinos. Ask anyone, even beggars in the streets, and they would tell you their dreams. While everyone has dreams, how many of us actually takes the time to compute and know how much would it cost? Let’s take a look at some common dreams of Filipinos which you might be able to relate.

House and Lot. Typical filipinos are family-oriented and value family so much. When we talk about family, it’s not just about our immediate family, by family, we mean-extended family. That is with Lolos, Lolas, siblings and even Titas and Titos. In short a dream home for Filipinos is one that can house almost everyone.

Tag price: 15 Million

Car. A car is not a luxury anymore, it has become a necessity due to too much pollution in metro manila especially for those just starting a family as they can’t afford their baby to be exposed to such a not so friendly environment.

Tag Price: 2 Million

Education. It is every parent’s dream to have his/her kids go to a good school. The cost of education has been increasing every year. The cost to send a child to school should include not only the tuition fees but everything related to getting to school. Average education from pre-school to college may cost 1 Million for every child. We are not even talking about studying in top schools.

Tag Price: 1 Million/child

Travel. When we went to Coron, Palawan last February, we have seen scenes we never knew they existed. I can’t help but wonder how many Filipinos are missing that part of the world. Not just that, I’m sure if given a chance anyone would like to travel to see the seven wonders of the world. There’s even a book that list down the 100 places one must see before one dies. As they say, we only live once, so let’s explore.

Tag Price: 1 Million (for entire lifetime)

Insurance. Insurance is a security investment. This will make sure that you can sleep well at night. Insurance can be life or non-life (fire, car, house, property, etc..). For business owners, this is an incentive as they get tax shields by having these.

Tag Price: 1 Million

Savings. Of course, everyone needs money in the bank in case of emergency.

Tag Price: 5 Million

We are not even talking here of being financially free. As you might have noticed, the above listed are even liabilities and therefore you need cashflow to maintain them. Therefore, anyone who has these things will probably still have to work. At least you were able to send your son to school, able to travel some places of the world, have insurance and have little savings.

Now, let’s compute how possible or achievable is this dream:

House and Lot: 15 million

Car: 2 million

Education: 1 million

Travel: 1 million

Insurance: 1 million

Savings: 10 million

Total: 30million

That’s right. This means that you actually have to save for 30 Million for your dream. Let say, you want to achieve it 5 yrs from now, this would mean that you need to save up 500k/month (30 million/5/12) starting this month. Now, ask yourself, with what you are doing, is this possible? If you are honest enough, you would admit this isn’t possible with the current job that you have. So, let’s extend it to 10yrs, this would mean 250k/month savings; 125k/month for 20yrs. Tell me a job that that can help you make this income. If you are a seamen are CEO, you have a good chance of making this income but how many of us can be seamen and CEO? and are they actually able to save this much? Let’s again stretch it to 40yrs, that’s 62,500/month. What about 80yrs?

This is the reason why so many have been disillusioned. They thought that after college, it’s over and they start working for this dream without knowing that no matter how hard they will work they will not get there. That’s because they fail to do the math.

If you have dream like this, I’m sure that a lot of you have dreams even bigger than this. Try to re-evaluate the vehicle that you are riding to get these dreams. If you think you are in the wrong vehicle or not sure what vehicle to ride on, I recommend that you invest time to educate yourself financially. There are people who are able to reach their dreams and like you, they also just have 24 hrs a day. So obviously, they do not get it by working harder or longer. The truth is they know something that you don’t. Lastly, contact the person who invited you in this website, they might have the information that can change your life.

Do you want to do great things?

Be committed to your dreams.

Every success in the world happens because of commitment.

Henry Ford is known as one of the richest men in history. But five times in his life, the man failed in business and became totally bankrupt. But Henry Ford didn’t stop. He kept doing the hard stuff. Finally, he built the Ford Motor company—now the second biggest carmaker in America. What made Henry Ford succeed? Commitment.

Rowland Macy failed in 7 businesses. Can you imagine how depressing that was? But he had commitment. He didn’t stop. Finally, he built a store named Macy’s in New York. The rest is history. Macy’s is now the largest department store in the world. It has 800 giant stores in America. What made Rowland Macy build his store after failing 7 times? Commitment.

Col. Sanders was rejected 1009 times by restaurants who didn’t like his fried chicken recipe. He later built KFC, which has 20,000 restaurants all over the world. What made Col. Sanders go knocking on the doors of 1009 restaurants, selling his fried chicken recipe? Commitment.

Stephen King submitted his book manuscripts to 30 publishers. All rejected his book. He was so discouraged, he threw away the manuscript in the trashcan. But his wife picked it up and mailed it to another publisher. They accepted it. Today, Stephen King has written 49 books and has sold 350 million copies. What made Stephen King submit his manuscript to 30 publishers? And what made his wife pick up the manuscript from the trash to submit it to one more publisher? Commitment.

Friend, it’s always commitment that will make you succeed.

Here’s another definition: Commitment is stickability amidst difficulty.

What dreams in your life have not yet come true?

Do you want to be wealthy? You need to be committed. You can’t be wishy-washy. You need to be committed to increasing your financial IQ; You need to be committed to living simply, discerning your wants vs. your needs; You need to be committed to investing a part of your income every month for the next 20 years.

Do you want to be healthy? You need to be committed to eating fruits and veggies. You need to be committed to exercise. You need to be committed to avoiding useless stress.

Do you want a fantastic family? You need to be committed to spending time together. You need to be committed to communicating from the heart, expressing love in practical ways, and forgiving each other.

Do you want to be successful in your spiritual life? Same thing. You need to be committed too.

I always wonder and question myself why most Filipino does not like to go into business? I also asked my friends and colleagues about this matter and their responses were, ”Business is hard!”, “I don’t want talk about it”, “We’re just employees”, “I have no money to start up a business”.

I am sad to hear their reasons. They declared themselves employees forever. That’s why we are called “Nation of servants “. I feel bad to hear that remark. We tend to build someone else’s dreams rather than build our own dreams. We allow other people to provide direction to our lives rather than us making our own decisions.

So I made up my mind to find ways so I can learn more about business and to become an Entrepreneur. I attended the PBEX (Philippines Business and Entrepreneurs eXpo) in Megamall and I learned the aspects of being an Entrepreneur:

Finding opportunities

Opportunities involve ideas, creating something out of nothing or seeing the benefits behind every opportunity. Also Entrepreneur search for opportunities in every problem because they are problem solvers they create solution in every problem to make themselves wealthy. “Robert Kiyosaki said “Everyone has money problems. If you want to make yourself rich, solve problems. Identifying a problem creates the opportunity for creating a solution.

Systematic Planning

Entrepreneur creates suitable system and feasible business plans for their businesses. But most people fail because they never identify what is really a good Business Plan and system. A Business Plan and System must be very reliable for long term market changes, flexible and have long term benefits. Filipino think about having business, wants to earn big time money so most of them get fraud business deals such as scams or fly by night companies.

Perseverance

One of the aspects of being an Entrepreneur is perseverance. It is what they call the “never say die attitude” of successful Entrepreneurs. Lack of perseverance is one major aspect of failure of aspiring Entrepreneurs. People easily be discouraged by a slight failure or setback. If he continues to entertain fears and worries he will just stop and quit. We need to make sure that we finish whatever it is that we started. We need to be patient and strong in all aspects (emotionally, physically, spiritually and Mentally.) If we really want to succeed in business.

I really like the saying of Thomas Edison, “I am not discouraged because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward”. Entrepreneur understands that every failure is a lesson to know their business more and mold them to be the successful person they want to be. In life failures are ingredients of success.

Network

Every entrepreneur have large network. What is this so called network? This consists of your friends, family members, business partners and more likely all of the person that you know. Entrepreneurs use this as leverage for their business, they are using OPT (Other People’s Time) and OPM (Other People’s Money). Entrepreneurs never use people to their advantage, they ask help and gives help from and to their networks. They invest more in relationship to gain trust and to build bridges to people that will be a great help to their businesses. As Martin Luther King said “All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality.”

It’s really a great pride to be an Entrepreneur and be a part of the solution to our country.

Winners and achievers always make things happen. They live the philosophy that Ralph Waldo Emerson articulated many years ago: “Shallow people believe in luck. Wise and strong people believe in cause and effect.”

Is the person you are today the effect of some random event, of chance? Are you the product of someone or something which you can easily put a blaming finger on? Or are you a cause, a change agent as you make things happen today?
